Garden Ready Plug Plants - (Tray contains 50-70 plants)
Growing Guidelines

Important Garden ready plug plants can be planted straight into the garden or grown on prior to planting out.

Step 1 Upon arrival

  • When you receive your box carefully unpack it
  • Place the tray indoors in a light, draught free spot for 24 hours to let the plants settle after having been in a box during transport
  • If the plants are little yellow (from lack of light being in their boxes) they will soon green up again
  • If the compost is dry give the new plants a little water either by misting or putting them in a bowl with 1/2cm deep water
  • Avoid watering late in the day
  • After 48 hours the plants will be ready to be planted on
Step 2a If growing on the plants prior to planting in the final position in the garden
  • Water plants 1-2 hours before to planting
  • Prepare the pots (5cm to 9cm) or trays the plants will be grown on in
  • Use a universal compost suitable for bedding plants
  • Fill the pots so that they are 1cm short from the top and don't press down too heavily. This will help with watering later
  • Ease plug plants out of the tray by pushing a pencil up underneath and handle gently to avoid any damage to the leaves
  • Dib a small hole in the compost and plant the rooted area of the plug below the compost
  • Gently firm in
  • In an open seed tray, plant 5-9cm between plants, (shorter the distance the quicker they plants need potting up)
  • Gently water in with a fine rose
  • Grow plants on for 3-4 weeks or until they are rooted to the bottom of the pot/tray
  • Harden off plants before planting them outside by moving the plants outside during the day and back in at night for 2 weeks after transplanting
Step 2b If planting straight into the garden
  • Only plant directly outside when all chance of frost has passed
  • Water plants about 1 to 2 hours before planting
  • If once planted out there's a frost just cover the plants with a horticultural fleece at night but uncover them again during the day
  • Ease plug plants out of the tray by pushing a pencil up underneath and handle gently to avoid any damage to the leaves
  • Ideally plant early in the morning or late afternoon to avoid scorching when you water them in
  • Water in straight after planting
  • Feed monthly to encourage plenty of new growth
  • Planting distance and position will very according to variety. Please check the height and spread of your plants will reach when mature
