Here are the top 10 Tips selected by our Tony the GoneGardening.com gardener. Why not try them out for yourself?
- Check and water all plants in containers and hanging baskets. They will dry out much quicker than those planted in the ground. Flowertower has its own 4 pint water reservoir to hold water and stop leaching of nutrients. Ideal for: bedding plants, houseplants, strawberries, tomatoes, herbs and perennials.
- If very dry, use mulches to retain moisture in flower and shrub borders. It will help to conserve water too!
- Don't feed the lawn during periods of very dry weather with granular feeds - it won't help! A liquid feed is best.
- Keep paths and patios free from weeds without using chemicals. A gas weed-wand makes light work of killing weeds, even around ponds with fish where some sprays cannot be used.
- In ponds, don't allow surface/floating plants to totally cover, preventing light getting to plants beneath. Use a pond net and long reach handle to skim off other difficult to reach surface debris.
- For effective slug control, use a slug trap. Empty frequently.
- Water the floor of the greenhouse to increase humidity in dry weather.
- Take houseplants outside to enjoy refreshing light rain.
- Don't forget to protect yourself from the sun when working in the garden. Always wear a hat!
